As temperatures heat up across the country, renters have cooling systems on their minds. Air conditioning units are the most-searched amenity among renters, according to an analysis from Zumper, a rental listing site. Zumper analyzed what its users nationwide searched for the most among rental units.
Zumper researchers noted that a few amenities on the list were traditionally considered “nice-to-have items” but are now “must-haves.” For example, balconies and furnished apartments are in greater demand, researchers note.
“More millennials are moving between cities—and they’re moving fairly often,” researchers note. “For someone who’s constantly moving, lugging furniture from one spot to the next is inconvenient. Furnished apartments offer renters the benefit of not having to hire movers to get their belongings to their new place.”
The 10 most requested amenities, according to Zumper, are:
- Air conditioning
- In-unit washer and dryer
- Dishwasher
- On-site laundry
- Assigned parking spot
- Central heating system
- Furnished apartments
- Balcony
- Garage parking
- Hardwood flooring
The least-searched amenities, according to Zumper, are: rooftop deck, package service, concierge service, residents lounge, and dry cleaning service.
